An amazing time, and certainly one to be remembered fondly, pregnancy is the begining of a special and unforgetable milestone - that of parenthood. The most beautiful time in a woman's life is when our bodies are doing the very things they were made to do - making babies! I have always loved capturing expectant mothers, whether they are anticipating the delivery of their very first baby or are celebrating the unique state of carrying a life. From the begining of my career as a portrait artist, I have found the human form intriguing. It is a complicated form to understand and one that even after years of drawing it, painting it, and shooting it, it still leaves me in awe.
I recommend maternity portrait sessions between 26 to 36 weeks of pregnacy. For clients who are carrying multiples, it is vital to capture the belly before the mommy to be gets too tired and feet begin swelling! I invite you to peruse the gallery and get a glimpse of some of my best work. I am constantly looking for new fabrics and different poses, and although the galleries are updated regularly, these are just a few of the possibilities. During the prenatal session, I recommend that you bring several items including those gorgeous, red rose petals! They are fresh with each client and are one of my signature shots!

I could oooh and ahhh my entire lifetime about my passion for capturing the innocence and blessings of a newborn. For the past 12 years, my passion has been capturing the mother to that of the infant. My signature shot for years that has represented my art has been the perfectly sleeping baby carefully placed in the parents' hands. From the early days of that simple and perfect capture of each newborn juxtaposed on a clean black background, my work with newborns has ranged from postioning them in boxes, with siblings and grandparents welcoming them, to fully understanding just exactly what it takes to capture them each individually and perfectly. The newborn session is typically pre-scheduled before delivery and or as soon as the baby arrives. I encourage the umbiblical cord to have dropped before the session, and this very special session takes a while. I am meticulous about getting the details correct and making time to bond with baby to create a comfortable enviroment both for mother and her newest litle miracle! -

There's nothing more wonderful than watching and documenting a baby as it goes through the stages of babyhood. I love being able to give the gift of timelessness to the rapidly changing baby! Childhood portraiture is perhaps one of the most rewarding to me as an artist as it is in this window of years that if I have been the client's portrait artist from the begining of life, I have already bonded with the child and know the nuances of each individual personality. From age one until their tiny teeth begin to fall marking the next phase of growing up, I am there to embrace their spirit and capture them forever! -

The family unit is an ever growing and highly dynamic group. It is so important to make sure that every family has at least a few really awesome portraits that capture the relationships between mother and child, father and child and of course, siblings! I sprinkle in a fair amount of family at specific intervals throughout the course of newborn through seniors sessions. All my AMP clients have in their files a library of various, and very different, posed and uncomposed portraits from which to choose! -

The Art & Medicine Projects
As an artist, I believe that it is extremly important to make a difference in my community. In 2003, I began working with mothers who were breast cancer survivors. The Hope & Inspiration Calendar was born, and now, in it's 8th year, has inspired and transformed the "face" of the disease. The collection honors the journey of these remarkable women and celebrates their motherhood from young mothers to grandmothers! As an expansion of The Art & Medicine Projects, I created a collection entitled Small Miracles in 2010 in collaboration with The Snowdrop Foundation and Texas Children's Hospital. This latest installment in the Art & Medicine Projects showcases pediatric cancers and the children faced with them. -

As an artist first and foremost, the images here are an extension of just that...artistry. In these images, you will find a transformation of what was a portrait into something more... a watercolor of a mother nursing,a pen and ink of a toddler stomping through the grass, and a finely tuned black and white nude series. Every client asks for at least one fine art portrait at some point in their life. Here's just a few of what my clients ask for time and time again...fine art that is their legacy to pass on to future generations. -
